Eurasianet and MediaNet are implementing a collaborative initiative that aims to help journalists
in Kazakhstan adapt to the changing legal environment in the country. The strategic goal is to
help journalists maintain an ability to produce and disseminate fact-based content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This project will feature a blend of technical and practical components. Online and offline
workshops will help participants improve their understanding of media ethics and news
sense. Discussions will be forward looking to help participants navigate existing
challenges that impede the circulation of fact-based information in Kazakhstan, as well as
obstacles that may arise in the near future. We will conduct workshops for journalists and
content creators to enhance awareness of legal rights and ethical obligations when it
comes to producing fact-based articles and analysis. We will likewise create a working
group to allow journalists to share experience and gain easier access to legal advice. The
project will additionally stress practical opportunities for participants to reinforce skills
discussed in workshops. Content created under the auspices of our practical component
can be published in Kazakh, Russian and English, reaching a mass audience.
Our initiative will also create enduring mechanisms that provide journalists with easily
accessible and free advice on legal matters and IT security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The pilot initiative will run from October 1, 2024 through September 30, 2025.Journalists
who contribute content to the initiative will have the chance to receive honoraria for their
efforts. Activities undertaken in connection with the initiative will be planned so as not to
interfere with regular work responsibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
