Fact-checking Training Held in Turkistan

Did you celebrate April Fools’ Day? We didn’t, but we couldn’t miss our professional holiday, Fact-Checker’s Day on April 2. The best way to celebrate is by increasing the number of like-minded individuals who will also fight against disinformation. From April 1 to 3, 2025, the FactCheck Dive training was held in Turkistan, bringing together working journalists, journalism students, and faculty members.

The training gathered 23 participants from Turkistan, Taraz, Kyzylorda, Shymkent, Kentau, Lenger, and other small towns and villages in southern Kazakhstan. Participants learned how to work with open sources, verify texts, photos, and videos, and practiced creating their own fact-checking materials.

The training was conducted in two groups in Kazakh, with experienced trainers from Factcheck.kz sharing their expertise. The event was part of the FactCheck Dive project, supported by the Nippon Foundation.

This initiative marks another important step in building a professional community of fact-checkers in Kazakhstan, strengthening media literacy, and combating disinformation.
