Albany Associates International and IREX Europe regional project on the development of pluralism and impartiality
in media and media literacy among Central Asian audiences with the support of the British Embassy in Astana
announces a competition for international news and editorial media in Central Asia

The competition accepts materials (textual and multimedia), created in the form of fact-checking, debunking and
deconstructing propaganda, using tools and fact-checking techniques obtained during trainings within our project or
independently in the process of cooperation in the fact-checker society.
To participate in the competition it is necessary to prepare material on the coverage of existing international history /
news, which had a significant impact on the Central Asian audience and aroused great interest. The material should
be first published by the participating media organization in the period from March 1–20, 2018 in Kazakhstan and
simultaneously sent to the project team by e-mail factcheck.kz@gmail.com, after which the received material will
be published on the website www.factcheck.academy , if it meets the criteria of fact-checking.
Received competition works will be judged by 5 experts-judges.
Deadline for submission of competition works: March 20, 2018 to 12.00 (Astana time)
Announcement of results and award ceremony: March 27, 2018 (Tuesday) in Almaty
PRIZES
1. The main prize is a trip to the global summit of fact-checkers in Rome, Italy (https://www.poynter.org/news/fifth-
global-fact-checking-summit-will-be-held-rome-june-2018) or another relevant trip to Europe with the visit of the
leading fact-checking organization and a cash prize ($ 150 as USD rate of the National Bank of Kazakhstan).
2. Second and third prize (optional) – full financial support for participation in a regional factual conference in
Almaty on May 17-18, 2018 or a five-day internship training in factcheck.kz in Almaty and a cash prize ($ 150 as
USD rate of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan). Prizes are distributed within the editorial laureate at
the discretion of the publisher.
